Historian Invites You to Time Travel into West
Volusia’s Past (DeLand, FL) Living history reenactor
Larry French has announced the publication of his
book, Grand Hotels of West Volusia County.  The
illustrated history printed by Arcadia Publishing is
comprised of over 200 rare images from 9 hotels that
were a part of West Volusia County’s growth in the 19th
century. Hotels featured include the Ponce de Leon Hotel at De Leon Springs; Carrollton, College Arms, DeLand, and Putnam Hotels of DeLand; Harlan Hotel in Lake Helen; Cassadaga Hotel in Cassadaga; DeYarman Hotel; and Brock House in Enterprise.
Author Larry French is a Floridian, living history reenactor, and member of the Florida Historical Society. He served as Executive Director of the West Volusia Historical Society and provides historical narration for Great Tasting Tours of DeLand. French has also written the history-based fiction adventure novel series, Time Will Tell. Grand Hotels of West Volusia County was written to increase awareness of the areas past and relevance surviving landmarks. Grand Hotels of West Volusia County utilizes vintage images from a variety of sources, including the Bill Dreggors Family, City of Lake Helen, Enterprise Heritage Center and Museum, Florida Park Service, Florida State Archives, the Lake Helen Historical Museum, and the Stetson University du-Pont Ball Library.
The Muse Book Shop in DeLand will host a Book Signing event for Grand Hotels of West Volusia County, Wednesday, April 11, from 5:00-8:00 pm and there will be a Book Launch event taking place at one of the hotels featured in the book, the Artisan Downtown, Thursday, April 12, from 5:30-7:00 pm.
